Esther is the expert client at Mposa. She has HIV. On one of my last days at the clinic, she was showing me her work, and her record keeping. She said that she was encouraging the women at the clinic to go for VCT (voluntary counseling and testing—of HIV). Then she told me that when she meets the women in ANC, she ‘introduces’ the fact that she herself has gone for testing, and is positive. That she has had all 3 of her children tested also. 2 are negative, and one, the youngest little girl, is positive. This little girl is gorgeous. All chubby and sweet and devoted to her mum. It is so hard to imagine that now she will live with HIV.
